Be quick before Christies and co make copies unaffordable
Over the last few years, the shadowy Gallery edits series has proven itself to be one of the most reliable sources of scalpel style reworks around, with the mysterious producers behind the imprint frequently choosing to extend, chop and rearrange high-grade material that tends towards the overlooked or lesser-celebrated. Predictably, the two reworks showcased on the series’ seventh salvo are undeniably impressive. A-side ‘All Over The World’ is a fine slab of boogie-era disco brilliance, with glassy-eyed female lead vocals, jaunty pianos and D-Train style synth squiggles rising above a slap-bass propelled, peak-time-ready groove. Speaking of D-Train, elements of James Williams’ vocals appear on ‘Be The Dancer’, a version of a more chugging, jaunty and organic turn-of-the-80s disco jam of unknown origin. It’s a sneaky trick, but one that works really well.
