ack in 2011, when he was still emerging as a producer, Eddie C delivered a pleasingly sample-rich debut album called Parts Unknown. 14 years and four full-length excursions later, we get a sequel of sorts: a set of cuts closest in style to his earliest material, compiled from tracks made at different points between 2005 and 2020. There’s much to enjoy, from the woozy downtempo beats of ‘Need Some’, the joyous, boogie-flecked deep house breeziness of ‘Catfish Haus’ (made with pal LJ Simon) and the dusty sample-house of ‘I Hear Dat’, to the reggae-goes-Balearic-synth-pop edit-not-edit that is ‘Take Chances’, and the jazzy instrumental hip-hop of ‘I’ve Tried’, where a sublime female vocal samples catches the ear.
